Battle of the North and South Winds
These are whistles. By blowing in the mouth and covering holes in the ears, various notes are achieved. Based on a Vancouver Island First Nations legend. The cold north wind and the warm south wind battled for control over Vancouver Island. Eventually, the south wind won and that is why it seldom snows on Vancouver Island.
The whistles and base are sculpted ceramic. The base represents Vancouver Island with waves of the Salish Sea licking its shores. The eyes are snail shells, hair is strips of cedar bark, feathers and seashells adorn the hair; all items were found on Vancouver Island beaches.
Although this sculpture is sold, I can create a custom ceramic whistle just for you. Contact me for more information.
